We often know from the start what historic building codes will or not allow. We have worked successfully in many historic districts, and with the Historic Preservation Review Board (DC), Old Georgetown Board, the Commission on Fine Arts, and facade easement organizations. If we determine that the project is subject to historic review, we establish with an early working relationship with the appropriate review staff to refine the conceptual design (if necessary) in accordance with preservation codes. This early relationship allows the project to progress on what would be approved and allows for adjustments during the conceptual design process, thus avoiding the need to ever "go back to the drawing board," often saving time, money, and frustration.
